We’re happy to share a positive update about Eve who was recently sponsored by Carolyn Merrill through our #FundAFeral program. This is exactly why sponsorships matter—so when a cat needs medical care, we can act immediately. On Thursday night, our feeder Jackie noticed Eve sounded extremely congested and had labored, nasal breathing. She took a video and sent it to me right away. Since I knew Eve was inside the building, I went out immediately, secured the area, and safely trapped her so we could assess what was going on. While it wasn’t life-threatening, it was something that needed prompt veterinary care to give her relief. I called Pamlico Animal Hospital and was able to get an urgent care appointment right away. Once there, the amazing Dayna gloved up and carefully removed Eve from her trap so Dr. Martin could do a full exam. Despite being feral, Eve was an absolute champ and allowed a thorough evaluation. Here’s what we learned:
We boostered her vaccines, gave her a steroid injection, and even managed her first dose of oral medication. She was so calm that she’ll be able to continue on the more effective oral treatment for her respiratory illness—helped by the fact that she’s toothless, which made things a bit easier on my end. I checked on her first thing this morning, and she’s already sounding less congested, so the steroid is clearly helping. Thank you, Carolyn, for your selfless support. Donations and sponsorships help cover food, litter, routine care, and emergency medical needs—making moments like this possible. This is the impact of community. This is why we do what we do.

In honor of this cozy little holiday, our very own Mocha is stepping in as today’s “purr-ista.”
This handsome tabby has perfected the art of slow blinks, warm cuddles, and bringing just the right amount of sweetness to our sanctuary. Stay caffeinated, stay cozy, and give Mocha a little love today! Let's check in with some of our seniors. The day I took these photos was a great day. I rarely see the three white girls out at the same time. They are now microchipped. In the early days we were funded primarily through ourselves and a few donations from others so we didn't microchip then. Instead I got creative with the ear tipping. Some had left ear tips, some right, and some notches.
There are 17 kitties who live in the rear section of the sanctuary. These kitties were the originals. Some have been added in over the years but the bulk are from the Choco group. Lily Celebrated her 11th birthday with us just two days ago !! She came with the others back in 2015 when we first opened. Many of our residents are still looking for their Fund-A-Feral sponsors. Might that be you? You can learn more about our Fund-A-Feral program here. Happy 11th birthday to our precious Lily girl ! She beat the odds with a diagnosis of squamous cell cancer on her ears several years ago. Here are some of my favorite photos of her over the years. Would you like to send Lily and her friends some treats to celebrate her special day? Or give her the best birthday ever by sponsoring her through our Fund-A-Feral program? If so, check out the links below. Birthday Wishlist - They love getting the temptations the best !! Fund-A-Feral Sponsorship Sunday while our volunteer Bryan was in the sanctuary feeding, he found Juan in a forever sleep under the fig tree. You will be missed by us all. You came to us in December 2017 after the shelter had over 30 cats surrendered from ONE location. We grabbed you and 12 others. Not all were able to make it out due to being very feral. You were one of the first feral juniors I tried to socialize. I really did try. You were already 8 and half months old though. We shared some tender moments in the beginning but I could see you just needed your space and so you joined our sanctuary and lived a wonderful life here for the last seven and a half years. Your favorite spot was crouched down by the building or inside the straw stuffed igloo there, or in the blackberries. You had so many friends and doppelgangers. It was tough to tell you apart from Shaun. Twin gingers. Goodbye sweet beautiful boy ! I went out the next day and looked around expecting to see you but then remembered you had left us. We were happy to be your guardians and hope to see you again one day. Juan was sponsored through our "Fund-a-Feral" program. If you would like to honor Juan by becoming a monthly sponsor to another sanctuary kitty, please visit our Fund-A-Feral page here. Look at this Floof!! This is Buzz, an orange fluffball of a kitty, who has been living with us since February 2019. He showed up at our sanctuary a couple weeks after another resident's arrival, Woody, so we named him accordingly. Both have called the sanctuary home ever since!
Buzz was estimated to be a young adult when he showed up here, so he's approximately 6 years now. He's quite the handsome young man, tempting everyone to come over and pet him - but he does not stick around for those activities as he prefers the feral life, which is quite alright with us! It's Buzz's birthday this month and we would LOVE to find a virtual adopter for him. Will you be the one to give the gift of monthly support for this handsome boy? A virtual adopter is a monthly donor through our Fund-A-Feral program who helps cover the costs of their chosen cat's care such as food, enrichment, and necessary vetting for as little as $10/month!**
This is Baby, pictured on the left, who came to us two years ago when she, and several other cats from a TNR location, were in an area that was no longer safe for them. They were not wanted on the property and were at risk of being trapped and dumped somewhere else (or killed!!). Thankfully we were able to take them into our sanctuary where they are now safe and spoiled rotten!
Initially when Baby came to us, she was very shy and timid. To provide more socialization time, she was moved into the office with other shy kitties and that was when she met her best friend, Libby! (shown on the right) Baby has really bonded with Libby and she has gradually come out of her shell thanks to their bond and our socialization with her. She has such a cute, little face and one of those precious tiny meows that will just melt your heart. To keep her and Libby healthy, they're both on a special diet, Purina Pro Plan OM (Overweight Management), which helps with Baby's weight and Libby's digestive issues. Will you virtually adopt this little cutie to help cover her care here at the sanctuary? Blackie spent the past 14 years under the loving care of a wonderful guardian. However, circumstances have led her to the Paws and Love sanctuary where she is now discovering a world of compassion and understanding.
Blackie is a senior cat, and though she may be shy, her resilient spirit is evident as she explores her new environment, taking slow and deliberate steps to acquaint herself with the sanctuary and its feline residents. As she navigates this unfamiliar territory, she is gradually warming up to the company of other sanctuary kitties. We invite you to join our #FundaFeral program, where you can become a vital part of Blackie's journey by sponsoring her monthly needs. It costs an average of $50 per month to provide comprehensive care for a sanctuary cat like Blackie. Your contribution will go towards ensuring she has a safe shelter, nutritious meals, essential medical care, and an enriching and happy environment. Cats like Blackie find a forever home at the sanctuary, and sponsorship plays a crucial role in securing their well-being for life. By becoming Blackie's monthly sponsor, you're not only providing for her basic needs but also contributing to the creation of a loving and supportive sanctuary community. Join us in making a difference in Blackie's life and the lives of other sanctuary cats. Your support through #FundaFeral will not only bring comfort and joy to Blackie but also create a haven for senior cats to live out their golden years surrounded by love and care. Let's come together to ensure Blackie's twilight years are filled with warmth, compassion, and the security of a forever home. Become a sponsor today and be a part of Blackie's heartwarming journey at the sanctuary. Snow is a beautiful, white kitty who came to us back in 2015 when our founder, Audra, heard there was a colony of cats that needed to be relocated or they would all be euthanized. Their urgent need for a new home was the reason Paws and Love was formed.
Snow is a quiet cat who does not like human interaction so she prefers to stay far away, which has made it challenging to get a good photo of her. She can usually be found enjoying the shade of a bush and only comes closer when it's feeding time. Her friends are Chessie, Oreo, and Shawn. Won't you consider sponsoring Snow, one of our founding feline members? With over 100 cats to care for, our monthly expenses are no joke! To help with the daily expenses, you can virtually adopt Snow - covering her monthly needs and care.
