What is Trap-Neuter-Return?
Trap-Neuter-Return (known as TNR) involves trapping unowned outdoor community cats (also known as feral cats), taking them to the vet to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated, and then returning them to their outside homes. This process helps the cats in that it stabilizes and reduces community cat populations allowing them to live happier, healthier lives AND it reduces the number of cats who wind up in the animal shelter. Check out the video at the bottom of this page to learn more about how TNR works if this is something new to you.
Cats who have been spayed/neutered are less likely to develop certain cancers, spray, fight, roam, and will no longer produce offspring - no more kittens showing up in need of homes! With enough people spaying/neutering through TNR, it will eventually make a BIG impact on shelter intakes of cats. Currently 50% of all cats that enter the Beaufort County, NC animal shelter are euthanized. In just one year, 1146 cats entered the shelter - 557 were euthanized, while 564 were rescued or adopted. Be the difference today and let's TNR your cats!
