As many of you know, we have four mama cats currently in our care. This beautiful girl, Mama Jasmine, is the sister of the calico mama you met last week.
Last Monday was a big vetting day for both Mama Jasmine and Mama Flower (you’ll meet her and her babies in the next post!). The mamas were due for their rabies and distemper vaccines, combo testing, and fecal testing. Jasmine’s babies were just 3 weeks old at the time, so they were too young for any vetting yet.
Jasmine tested positive for feline leukemia (FeLV).
At intake, Jasmine and her mother (also a nursing mama) were placed together since they were both nursing babies in the same location. Once we got Jasmine’s results, we had to separate the two mamas for everyone’s safety. Now, each mama is with her own litter in separate spaces. Mama Flower tested negative, and although her babies are too young to test right now, they’ll be tested when they’re a bit older.
FeLV is a tough diagnosis. There’s a lot to unpack here, and I’ll be doing a dedicated post soon to talk more about what it is, what it means, and how we support cats who test positive.
For now, Jasmine is being a really good mama. We’ve switched her over to Purina Pro Plan Vital Systems Chicken & Egg Formula 4-in-1 Dry Kitten Food, and she’s eating great. In fact, she’s eating literally everything I put down for her and her kittens.

Right now, I feel like I’m living in a soap opera with all of the little side stories going on… and I’ll be sharing more of them soon.
Thank you all for following along and for supporting us in the care of these precious mamas and babies.
